| | In an effort to save money and time, Ewnix has decided to close three servers related to the IRC Network. This will not affect the website, e-mail, or your current connectivity to the network as the DNS has already been rerouted. We have departed with Bear, Denny, and soon, Tide.
If we feel that the network warrants more servers in the future, we will not hesitate to bring them to our users for a more enjoyable experience. At the moment, our 3 servers stand to be more than enough. Our new server lineup is as follows:
Crimson - DNS server, Hub for IRC networks, runs webchat, and IRC Services. Bryant - DNS server, web server, IRC server Anubis - IRC server, Mumble server.
We thank you for choosing Ewnix Communications! Should you encounter any problems regarding the latest changes, please let us know.
| Two of our IRC servers will be going down this evening for operating system upgrades. The outages should be very brief, but may take some time. We are changing our Gentoo servers to Arch Linux. The affected servers are Crimson, Bear, and Denny. We will only be doing one server at a time, and we are creating backups. If you want to chat during the outages, simply connect to any other server as they will not be affected.
This will NOT affect our website or our E-mail services.
| TetriNET Tournament Postponed | | | |
| The TetriNET Tournament has been postponed due to scheduling conflicts amongst our contestants. We will have more information regarding a new date by the end of the week. | |
| Greetings, everyone! I am pleased to announce that we have a working TetriNET server running on tide.ewnix.net! The rules are standard TetriNET rules. No changes have been made to alter the amount of special blocks or anything of that nature.
With this announcement, I am also announcing that Ewnix will be holding a TetriNET tournament on Sunday 17 July 2011 at 1300 (1:00 PM) CST! The winner will receive a free shell on their choice of our Ewnix servers for a full year! The shell will include:
- 1 dedicated IP address (Private IRC will be allowed, but if you attract any unwarranted attention, this will be taken away)
- Free e-mail hosting (provided by Google)
And the big prize is......
a FREE domain name provided by Ewnix Communications!
That's right: If you win, Ewnix Communications will foot the bill for one free year of your own domain name, e-mail, and all hosting needs! Rules for the tournament are as follows:
- Must use an approved TetriNET client. For Windows: TetriNET. For Linux: TetriNET or gTetriNET. For OSX: iTetriNET.
- No pre-arranged teaming up on anyone. If you are suspected of this, you will be immediately disqualified.
- There will only be one winner for each round, per TetriNET rules. The first person to win 5 games will be declared the winner of the tournament.
That's all for the rules! If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on our IRC network, irc.ewnix.net channel #Ewnix, or e-mail me personally at phlux _at_ ewnix.net.
If you plan to register, all you have to do is send me an e-mail with the subject "Registration for TetriNET Tournament." The body should contain the nickname in which you will enter the server as.
Good luck! [Submitted by phlux]
| The web chat outage was related to the outage of Tide that was posted previously.
We have fixed the issue, and our web chat is back online.
Thank you for choosing Ewnix! [Submitted by phlux]
| Unfortunately, on 21 May 2011, it seemed that the world had ended for our Michigan server named Tide. Fortunately, we were able to bring the server back online in under an hour and things are back up and fully functional.
The reason for downtime is undetermined at this point, but the issue is being looked into so that we can take measures to prevent these types of outages from happening again.
We apologize for any disruption this may have caused. [Submitted by phlux]
